Scout's notes on Galveston

Before your cruise

The Strand historic district, with its 19th-century buildings, is close to the terminals. Moody Gardens, the Pleasure Pier on the seawall, and the island's beaches are all a short drive away.

After your cruise

Space Center Houston, home of NASA's Johnson Space Center visitor center, is about 45 minutes away and on the route to Houston's airports. That makes it a popular stop between the ship and a flight home.

Timing tips

The causeway to the island is the only road in and can back up on busy cruise mornings. Allow extra time to reach the port, and check how long the drive to your airport takes after any tour.
