Which pier you're at

Pointe SeraphineAcross the harbor from downtown Castries, with duty-free shops.
La Place CarenageOn the edge of downtown Castries, near the market.

The Pitons and Soufrière are about 1.5 hours south by road; Rodney Bay and Reduit Beach are about 20 to 30 minutes north.

Taxis

Taxis wait outside both terminals. Fares are set by law and depend on distance and how many people are riding. Confirm the total before you set off.

A round trip to Soufrière by taxi is a full day, so most people go by tour or by boat.

Money

Eastern Caribbean dollars. US dollars are widely accepted.

Language

English; you will also hear Kwéyòl (St. Lucian Creole).

Back on board

All-aboard is usually 30 minutes before sailing; your ship's daily planner has the exact time. The road south to the Pitons is winding and slow; a boat trip down the coast is quicker.

Be aware

  • Taxi fares set by law depend on how many are riding, so confirm the total for your group before you set off.

Scout's notes on St. Lucia

Short port days

Marigot Bay, a sheltered harbor ringed by palms, and Rodney Bay with Pigeon Island to the north are within reach of a shorter stop. Ziplining in the rainforest is another popular half-day choice.

Long port days

The Pitons and the town of Soufrière are the reason most people come. Tours there typically include the Sulphur Springs drive-in volcano, mud baths, and waterfalls. Many go down the coast by catamaran and back by road, or the reverse.

Getting back on time

Soufrière is only about 20 miles from Castries, but the winding coastal road makes it a long drive each way. Save it for a full port day, and choose a tour that brings you back to the pier.

the Pitons are a long, winding drive
